Guam is located in the Western Pacific and is known for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and local charm. The main city, Tamuning, is home to the airport, many hotels, and most restaurants.
It had been a while since we visited a proper beach destination, with blue waters and white sand. Although we’d been to Vietnam earlier, we hadn’t experienced the picturesque beaches we longed for. When we found a great deal on tickets to Guam—half the usual price—we couldn’t pass up the chance to visit this U.S. island territory in Micronesia for the first time.
We decided to rent a car to explore the island at our own pace. While this made it easy to reach more remote spots, it’s not a necessity if you plan to stay in Tamuning. Many hotels offer shuttle services to the city center, and if your main focus is relaxing on the beach, a car might be optional.
We landed in Guam and checked in at Hotel Nikko Guam, chosen for its proximity to Gun Beach and Tumon Beach as well as its central location. Despite being tired from the flight, we took a walk around the hotel, and as soon as our little one saw the beach, we were sold.
She spent the afternoon building sandcastles and watching the sunset—a perfect start to our trip. For dinner, we visited Ben N’ Yan’s, a Filipino restaurant with a cozy family vibe. The skewers and rice were a hit, and it was a great way to wind down after a long travel day.
We packed our swim gear and drove to Family Beach, enjoying the scenic route along the way. The water was beautiful, and we spent the morning swimming and relaxing. Although we had planned to visit Inarajan Natural Pool afterward, our little one was too tired, so we pivoted and headed to Agaña Shopping Center instead.
After a nap back at the hotel, we spent the late afternoon swimming near the hotel. The calm water, lack of crowds, and stunning sunset made it one of our favorite moments of the trip. Dinner was at Ban Thai Restaurant, followed by dessert at Guam Sweet Spot for some delicious ice cream.
We started the day late with breakfast and a swim at the hotel pool. Around midday, we drove to Ritidian Point, a beautiful spot with ocean views, and then stopped by Micronesia Mall for a leisurely walk.
After a nap, we spent the rest of the afternoon at Tumon Beach, enjoying the tranquil water before heading to Jamaican Grill for dinner. The food was flavorful, reasonably priced, and included a standout kelaguen salad.
To cap off the day, we attended the Taotao Tasi Guam show. Our little one was absolutely mesmerized by the dancers, their vibrant costumes, and the fire performances. Watching her fascination made the show one of the highlights of the trip.
Guam surprised us with its laid-back vibe, incredible beaches, and family-friendly atmosphere. Everywhere we went felt local and welcoming, with no rush or stress—perfect for a relaxing vacation. Whether you’re lounging by the beach or enjoying a scenic drive, Guam is an ideal destination for families looking to unwind and create beautiful memories.
